Today we were delighted to welcome the Friends of Barshaw!
Our group enjoyed a fantastic hands‑on session learning all about different herbs and plants, with plenty of smelling and tasting along the way. Everyone even got the chance to pot their own seeds to take home and grow.
Who are the Friends of Barshaw?
Friends of Barshaw Park is a long‑established community group made up of local volunteers who work tirelessly to protect, enhance, and celebrate Barshaw Park in Paisley. Their work includes maintaining the Walled Peace Garden, developing the Community Garden, improving biodiversity, supporting local heritage, and creating inclusive opportunities for people to get involved across the community. Their projects are entirely volunteer‑led, powered by goodwill, and focused on making the park a welcoming, vibrant space for everyone.
They also run regular activities and events—from Nordic walking groups to gardening sessions—bringing people together through nature, creativity and community spirit.
A huge thank‑you to Alice for leading such an engaging and inspiring visit. We’re already planning our next outing with Friends of Barshaw in the beautiful Peace Garden—and we might even bring along a lovely picnic!
Special thanks to Renfrewshire Council for providing the Winter Connections Fund which allows us to have our group in a warm space together with food and hot drinks!
